WhatsApp launches new privacy features and Silence option for unknown numbers

WhatsApp has launched a new feature that would silence calls from unknown numbers and spam callers. Calls from unknown numbers will be automatically silenced. In the recent times, calls and messages from spammers had become a major nuisance. Additionally, there have been many spammers creating groups and adding people to those groups as members without their consent. WhatsApp should also take action against such users who add people in bulk to groups.

On the official WhatApp blog, the company informed that two news features have been launched today, Silence Unknown Callers and Privacy Checkup. Users will have better control over their privacy. And, nuisance from unknown callers will finally come to an end. The calls will still show up on the call list. In case it is an important call, users can connect back. The official statement added, “These calls will not ring on your phone, but will be visible in your Call list, in case it turns out to be someone important.”

WhatApp already offers end-to-end encryption on messages and calls. Now, users will have additional privacy features. Chat lock can be enabled on certain chats to password-protect them. Even users will be able to remain online but remain private. WhatsApp has finally listened to user demands and added a lot of cool features and privacy options.

Among Indian users, WhatsApp remains one of the highest used messaging applications.

The official announcement added, “Securing your private communication is important because we know people need a safe place to communicate. We’re taking this message around the world in new ways to help communicate why this is so important. Starting this week, we’re encouraging people to check in with one another securely via a private message so friends and loved ones know they have a safe space to open up.”
