Wadias Keen On West Bengal
Kolkata: Bombay Dyeing joint managing director, the flagship company of the Wadia group, Ness Wadia confirmed on Friday that his group would be keen on infrastructure, healthcare and education segments in West Bengal.
Mr Wadia, who was attending the national executive group conference of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) here, actually walked up to chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to inform him about his investing plans in the state. The gesture was highly valued.
More interestingly, Mr Wadia’s self-generated response accompanied Mr Bhattacharjee’s appeal to the private segment for establishing educational institutions, ITIs and polytechnic colleges through the public-private-partnership (PPP) path.
As part of its social welfare scheme, the Wadia group had long ago entered education and healthcare.
It has built seven educational institutions comprising the Neville Wadia Institute of Management Studies & Research, Nowrosjee Wadia College Of Arts & Science, Cusrow Wadia Institute Of Technology, Ness Wadia College of Commerce and Modern Education Society’s College of Engineering, in Pune. The group has also established two colleges - DG Ruparel College and New Law College, in Mumbai.
Wadias has also set up two hospitals — Nowrosjee Wadia Maternity Hospital and Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children.
