VW, Maruti keeps consumers on wait
There are many Indian consumers who got fascinated by the glamour and the attitude of the Volkswagen brand in the Indian market at the first chance. However, the fact that the company has kept the consumers on wait for a very long period now has played the party spoiler for the German auto major. While the problem is caused by the slow production process but the shortage of components has also been a major issue in the Indian automobile industry as a whole.
Pawan Goenka, head of the Society of Indian Automotive Manufacturers and president at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., the nation's largest sport-utility maker said that he doesn't see the component shortage problem going towards an end at least not in the coming three to four months.
Other auto majors like the market leader Maruti Suzuki is also facing a tough situation wherein the company is carrying a 15-20% backlog of its monthly sales on its books.
However, Shinzo Nakanishi, MD, Maruti Suzuki India recently said that as the growth rate will moderate in the Indian market, the component shortage problem will find a solution.
