Volkswagen to launch Beetle in India next yearIn Year 2009, car lovers can  will witness a lot of action in domestic car market. During the year, Volkswagen will give Indians a chance to own the Beetle, which has always been admired by millions of satisfied customers. Volkswagen, a German auto major, has taken up the task of introducing the car in the country next year.

The reporters were informed by Volkswagen India President and Managing Director Joerg Mueller, “Beetle will come here. After strengthening our dealership network, it will come next year.”

Beetle had been long seen to be used as the brand building tool for Volkswagen as the company is preparing to enter the highly competitive Indian compact car segment by the year of 2010.

Presently, Beetle is being manufactured in Mexico for VW’s worldwide supplies. It can enter India but through an entirely different unit import route.   

The company is planning to invest 580 million Euro in setting up a manufacturing facility at Chakan in Maharashtra. It is from here that the small and cute car will be manufactured for the Indian market.

Once the production at the mentioned facility starts, the company will launch its compact car based on the Polo platform in two variants, namely hatchback and sedan.

Mueller also added, “The car based on Polo platform will be rolled out from our upcoming plant (in Chakan) by the first half of 2010.”

The plant is also expected to manufacture Skoda’s new Fabia. Talking about the expansion of the company’s dealership network, the company officials informed that the end of this year will see the company having 15 dealers, up from current eight.
