Vikram Malhotra and Dipika Pallikal win National junior tournament
On Tuesday, Top seed Vikram Malhotra was extremely happy as his last National tournament as a junior fetched him the under-19 crown at the ICL Squash Academy. The young man who would turn 19 next week, won from the State-mate and second seed Aditya Jagtap in straight games in the finals.
In the first game, they both stood at 8-8, following which, Vikram used a deceptive mix of oblique drops to inch to 10-8.
On the other hand, in the girls' under-19 category, Dipika Pallikal won her second successive National junior tournament. During the twenty minute encounter, she faced a tough competition against Rajasthan's Surbhi Misra, who wrong-footed her several times.
Dipika, who belongs to Tamil Nadu led by 7-0, 3-0, and 5-0 in the first, second and third game respectively, and didn't give any chance to her opponent to play catch up.
TNs Karan Malik and Harita Om Prakash in the under-17 boys' and girls' category respectively, and Anaka Alankamony in the girls' under-15 section were other noteworthy winners. Another young champ for Tamil Nadu was Roshan R. K. in the boys' under-11 class.
