Video of Service dog trained to stop owner’s self-harming episodes goes viral
A video showing a touching moment between a service dog and its owner has become viral on internet
Danielle Jacobs, the owner of the dog who is suffering through Asperger syndrome, shared the video on June 2.
Asperger syndrome is an autism spectrum disorder. Those who suffer from it are often considered ‘high functioning’. They suffer from some issues with social interactions and communication.
Danielle recorded this video to show people what’s like to live with Asperger’s. The clip featured how her service dog, Samson is trained to stop her self-harming episodes. Samson is trained to alert to depressive episodes and help her through her meltdowns and panic attacks.
Danielle set up a home camera to film herself in the midst of a meltdown, something she terms as a symptom of her condition.
When has now gone viral, showing her service dog Samson calming her during what she describes as a meltdown. When she heads straight into a panic attack, she punches herself in the head.
That’s when Samson is seen approaching her when she is crying and shaking. The dog attempts to comfort her owner by standing upon her hind legs. He uses his paws to stop Danielle’s violent gestures.
The dog turns successful in comforting Danielle and she finally collapses to the ground. Samson continues to comfort her with kisses when she's on the floor.
