Two wheeler sales cross 10 million in 2009-10
March was one of the luckiest months as far as the Indian two-wheeler industry was concerned. While it touched the milestone of selling one million units in a month in the domestic market for the first time, the two-wheeler majors also sold over 10 million units in a fiscal year, According to the data provided by CMIE.
Registering a mind-boggling growth of 24.4%, the two-wheeler makers in the Indian market made a lot of noise as far as units sold were concerned.
Notably, with Hero Honda leading the pack, almost 77-78% of the total sales happening in the Indian two-wheeler market account for motorcycles followed up by almost 15-16% coming scooters and the rest being contributed by Mopeds.
Moreover, with the whopping numbers that India Inc. has registered for the last fiscal, it considered that India has emerged as a strong competitor to China, the largest two-wheeler market with 15 to 16 million bikes. The penetration in the Indian market is still very low and industry officials believe that it is going to double in the next decade in the domestic market.
