Tonira Pharma Gets USFDA Nod For Its Drug Manufacturing Unit In Vadodara

Vadodara-based, Tonira Pharma Ltd has finally received the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval for its drug making unit in Vadodara.

The approval will enable the Indian drug maker to export drugs manufactured at this unit to the United States.

Tonira Pharma Limited engages in the manufacture and sale of active pharmaceutical ingredients.

Around 60% of business for Tonira Pharma comes from antirheumatic, antiseptic and antidepressant segments, of which 90% is exported. The company currently exports to Korea, Brazil, Japan, France and Pakistan.

Recently, Mumbai-based Ipca Laboratories has acquired controlling stake in Vadodara-based Tonira Pharma. The company had picked up close to 14% stake in 2007, which it has increased to 36%.

Ipca Labs' proposal to take controlling stake was cleared during a board meeting in the first week of May. The stake is valued at around Rs 8 crore.
