Tibetan premier-in-exile demands release of all Lhasa detainees

Dharamsala/Kullu//Mumbai/Bhopal, Mar 18: Samdhong Rinpoche, Tibet's Prime Minister-in-exileSamdhong Rinpoche, Tibet's Prime Minister-in-exile has demanded the release of all Tibetan detainees and medical aid for all the injured.

"Release all innocent detainees and prisoners who have recently been arrested or imprisoned. Give medical aid to all those injured people who are unable to reach the PRC controlled hospital," said Rinpoche in Dharamsala.

The Dalai Lama has demanded that there should be an investigation into whether China is committing cultural genocide in Tibet.

The Tibetan Government-in-exile has also decided to centralize all movements against China.

"What we have decided is that we will centralize all movements which are to be carried out in order to save the Tibetans inside," said Karma Choephel, the speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile.

China has declared a "people's war" of security and propaganda against support for the Dalai Lama, underlining that it will not heed calls from around the globe for a lenient response to last week's riots.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Tibetans took to the streets in Kullu to protest the violence in Tibet.

In Bhopal, protestors burnt a poster of Chinese President Hu Jintao and called on the Indian Government and other world powers to intervene.

Mahesh Yadav, the President of the Mahatma Gandhi Tibet Freedom Movement, said there was a need for the UN and the US to put pressure on China to follow international law and avoid human rights abuses. (ANI)
