Battle with Microsoft heats up as Google creates own web browser

Google ChromeNew York - Google Inc, creator of the world's most popular internet search engine, has developed its own web browser in a challenge to Microsoft Corp's dominant Internet Explorer.

A test version of new software, named Google Chrome, is to be available for download Tuesday in more than 100 countries, Google announced Monday on its corporate blog.

The company said its aim was to deliver a faster, more user-friendly and safer browser.

Asia-Pacific tops in various telecommunications sectors

Bangkok - The Asia-Pacific region is the world's largest broadband market with 39 per cent of the total, the largest mobile phone market with 1.4 billion subscribers and claims 42 per cent of the world's internet users, a UN report revealed Monday.

By mid-2008, China and India alone had over 600 and 280 million mobile phone subscribers respectively, representing nearly a quarter of the world's total, said a report on telecommunications and information communication technology indicators by the International Telecommunication Union released in Bangkok.

The Asia-Pacific region, covering a vast and disparate area from West Asia to the Pacific Islands, notched up several "superlatives" in this year's report.

Now, a low-cost system to thwart Internet eavesdropping

Washington, August 26: Carnegie Mellon University experts say that they have developed a low-cost system that can reduce the risk of eavesdropping on Internet communications.

The researchers say that their system, called Perspectives, can also offer protection against attacks related to a recently disclosed software flaw in the Domain Name System (DNS), the Internet phone book used to route messages between computers.
