Think twice before installing unknown software

Poing, Germany  - PC users should be extremely cautious when installing free software from the internet.

Quantum computing comes closer to reality

Quantum computing comes closer to realityLondon, November 22: Stanford researchers say that they have made a significant advance towards creating quantum computers that will dramatically outshine tradioinal computers in tackling certain key problems like searching large databases, factoring large numbers, creating uncrackable codes, and simulating the atomic structure of materials.

The researcher say that they have successfully employed ultrafast lasers to set a new speed record for the time it takes to rotate the spin of an individual electron, and confirm the spin''s new position.

The computer helper: Which computer should you buy?

The computer helper: Which computer should you buy?Washington  - Buying a new computer usually involves comparing models. Comparisons are more difficult than they used to be, as the number of choices has grown and manufacturers have started marketing computers with specific uses in mind.

A little know-how, though, goes a long way toward making the task of sorting through the options a lot easier. Read on for some help.

Q: I'm looking at two computers, and the only difference appears to be the processor. One has an "Intel Core Quad 2400" processor and the other an "Intel Core 2 Quad -

Searching historical web pages to become easier with novel application

Searching historical web pages to become easier with novel applicationWashington, November 18: A team of researchers from the University of Washington and Adobe Systems Inc. have unveiled an intuitive application called Zoetrope, with which an Internet user can easily search out old data.

"Your browser is really just a window into the Web as it exists today. When you search for something online, you''re only getting today''s results," said Eytan Adar, a University of Washington computer science and engineering doctoral student.

New software helps accurately embed pics in videos

Washington, November 16 : A software programme developed by Stanford artificial intelligence researchers can make it easy to edit videos and add various items in it with such an accuracy that they seem to be part of the footage right from the beginning.

The researchers say that their software does not past a picture on top of the existing video, but embeds in it. It even allows a user to play a video on a wall inside a video.

According to them, the software can reduce the cost of performing some of the tricks that presently involve expensive commercial editing systems.

Usable quantum computer comes closer to reality

Usable quantum computer comes closer to realityWashington, November 16 : Researchers in the United States and at the London Centre for Nanotechnology have moved a step further towards building a usable quantum computer by finding a way to extend the quantum lifetime of electrons by over 5,000 per cent.

Writing about their work in Physical Review Letters, the researchers highlight the fact that electrons exhibit a property called “spin”, and work like tiny magnets that can point up, down or a quantum superposition of both.
