NDA cadets to sail “Tarangini” at high seas

New Delhi, Sept 12 : A sailing expedition by the officers and cadets of National Defence Academy (NDA), to a few Indian Ocean Region countries on board a Sail Training Ship ''Tarangini'' is scheduled to take place from September 21 to November 24.

The INS Tarangini, the Indian Navy''s Sail Training Barque, will be used for this expedition. It is custom-built for sail training of officers and cadets. Built at the Goa Shipyard Limited, Vasco da Gama, Tarangini is the only sailing ship to be commissioned into the Indian Navy on 11 November 1997, and is based at Kochi under Southern Naval Command.

Teenaged boy arrested for Thursday’s BMW hit-and-run case

New DelhiNew Delhi, Sept 12 : A teenager, who fled from the scene after critically injuring two motorcyclists with his BMW car on Thursday, was arrested on Friday from the Kashmere Gate inter-state bus terminus (ISBT) here.

Utsav Bhasin (19), the son of a Delhi-based industrialist, was at the wheels of his car when he rammed the motorcycle riders early on Thursday morning near the Moolchand flyover in South Delhi, police and witnesses said.

Oil companies send relief to flood hit Bihar

BiharNew Delhi, Sept 12 : Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Murli Deora today flagged off relief material contributed by the oil companies for flood-hit Bihar.

The relief material includes fuels like kerosene, free LPG for community kitchens in relief camps, solar lanterns, blankets, candles, matchboxes, ORS (Oral Re-Hydration Solutions), milk powder and cooking utensils.

Deora said his ministry is in touch with people in flood affected areas and promised more relief, if needed.

Man wanted in uranium theft case in India surrenders

New Delhi  - A man wanted for allegedly stealing and smuggling uranium ore has surrendered to a local court in India's north-eastern state of Meghalaya, police told news outlets Friday.

The man, identified as John Khongmin, the son of an employee of India's state-run Atomic Mineral Division (AMD), surrendered on Wednesday and was later remanded to police custody, the PTI news agency reported.

Last week, the state police arrested four people and seized packets of substances suspected to be uranium ore from their possession in the West Khasi Hills district, near the state capital Shillong.

Khongmin had allegedly supplied them the packets bearing the seal of AMD and the government of India, sources in the state police told the news agency.

14 killed in a bus crash in southern India

New 12 killed and 50 injured as bus falls into gorge in Andhra PradeshDelhi - At least 14 people were killed and 20 injured when a passenger bus plunged into a deep gorge in India's southern state of Andhra Pradesh, a news report said Friday.

The accident occurred in the Nellore district about 600 kilometres south-east of state capital Hyderabad on Thursday night.

Police told the IANS news agency that the bus, which was carrying 70 people from an extended family, fell into a 100-foot-deep gorge and got struck in trees.
