Pakistan should punish Mumbai attackers, Singh says New Delhi - India expects Pakistan to take action and punish terrorists who attacked the financial hub of Mumbai last November, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Tuesday.

Singh told reporters at the launch of the ruling Congress party's election manifesto in New Delhi that diplomatic efforts had succeeded and Pakistan had for the first time admitted that its citizens were involved in the terrorist attacks.

"We expect Pakistan to take the next step and ensure justice is done and culprits are punished," Singh said.

The 30-share sensitive index of the Bombay Stock Exchange, which opened at 9,040.3 points, closed at 9,424.02 points, a gain of 457.34 points.

Only one among the 30 stocks, that of the real-estate giant DLF closed in the red.

Similarly, the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange jumped by 132.85 points or 4.73 per cent to close at 2,939.90 points.
