SAIL to set up 12 million tonne Greenfield plant in Jharkhand

Paswan announces special measures for SC, ST working in PSUsNew Delhi, Sept 25 : Union Minister for Steel, Chemicals and fertilizers Ram Vilas Paswan today announced that the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) will add 19 million tonne capacity in Jharkhand.

The project includes a 12 million tonne Greenfield project and a seven million tonne expansion of its existing plant in Bokaro.

He also announced that Olympic Gold medallist Abhinav Bindra will be the brand ambassador for SAIL.

New Delhi, Sept. 25 : Dr W Selvamurthy, a senior official of the , DRDO, has been conferred with “WCCPGC-2008 Lifetime Achievement Award” in recognition of his outstanding contribution in the field of Preventive Cardiology in the World.

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil conferred the award on him at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on September 22, 2008.

Earlier, delivering the key note address to the “World Congress on Clinical, Preventive and Geriatric Cardiology-2008” that was inaugurated by former President A P J Abdul Kalam, at the Om Shanti Retreat in Gurgaon, Dr Selvamurthy spoke on the prevention and risk reduction in cardiovascular diseases.

Amar Singh gets a BSP man arrested for demanding Rs 5 crore to change statement

New Delhi, Sept 25 : Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh on Thursday had a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) worker demanding Rs five crore from him arrested.

He alleged that Azmat Ali made the demand in return for changing his version of the cash-for-vote scam, which a Parliamentary panel is probing.

Singh alleged that Ali had been repeatedly calling him for the past one month and had come to his official residence this morning to demand the hefty amount.

The Delhi Police later picked up Ali for questioning from Singh’s residence.

Banks strike enters second day

Banks strike enters second dayNew Delhi, Sept 25 : Banking operations were affected as the strike call given by the employees union demanding settlement of issues like wage revision and termination of job outsourcing in banking sector among other issues entered the second day today.

According to reports, operations were almost paralysed in the public sector banks from various parts of the country.

However, cash needs of ordinary customers were met by ATMs.

On Wednesday, operations of state-run banks remained almost paralysed as about nine lakh employees went on stir.
