Taiwan's ex-president, Chinese president to meet at APEC

Taiwan's ex-president, Chinese president to meet at APECTaipei  - Taiwan's ex-president Lien Chan and Chinese President Hu Jintao, in Peru for the upcoming APEC summit, will meet Friday amid signs of improved ties between Taiwan and China, according to a TV report.

Lien and Hu will meet at the Delfines Hotel in Lima, where Hu is staying, at 10:45 am Friday (1545 GMT), cable TV channel TVBS reported, quoting an unnamed Chinese source as confirming the meeting.

The Lien-Hu meeting will be open to the press, TVBS said.

Air China plane returns to Beijing after terrorism hoax

Beijing - An Air China plane returned to Beijing 10 minutes after take-off Thursday after a telephoned threat of a terrorist attack that later appeared to be a hoax, state media said.

US FDA Opens its Office in China

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration opened its first overseas office on Wednesday in China, with others planned around the globe to control quality of food imported in to the country. David Acheson, the FDA's associate commissioner for foods said, "We are currently importing about 15% of the food we eat in the United States, and it is increasing every year. It's much easier if we can build the collaboration at a local level rather than trying to do it from 8,000 miles away."

Tibetans optimistic about securing autonomy from China

Dharamsala, Nov 20 : Exiled Tibetan living here are appeared optimistic that autonomy talks with China would eventually reach a logical conclusion.

Gyalo Thondup, the elder brother of the Dalai Lama said Tibetans are not seeking independence from China.

"We have to face the reality, we have to talk to the Chinese and we have to deal with Chinese and, that is my approach. Even whatever they say, I am not worried but the people of China will eventually realise what we are asking. We are not breaking away from China, we are not asking the independence. The Chinese, they are twisting because they don''t want a reasonable settlement," Thondup claimed.
