Punjab farmers, lawmakers rubbish Radio Pakistan’s lack of water rumour

Punjab, FerozpurFerozepur , Nov. 4 : Radio Pakistan in its latest broadcast has tried to provoke Punjab’s farmers again by stating that there isn’t enough water for irrigation in the State and due to these adverse conditions, farmers are committing suicide.

There baseless reports have invited criticism from all quarters here. The general sentiment is that Radio Pakistan appears obsessed about creating unrest in the minds of people.

Suicide car bomb kills one Pakistani soldier, wounds seven

PakistanIslamabad - A suicide car bomber attacked a security checkpoint in north-western Pakistan on Tuesday, killing one soldier and wounding seven others, officials said.

The bomber ploughed his explosive-laden car into a security wall around the post, located in Doaba town in the restive Hangu district.

The blast injured eight security personnel, one of whom later died in the hospital, the military said in a statement.

Pakistan's Zardari to ask Saudi leadership to defer oil payments

Asif Ali ZardariIslamabad - Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari will request the Saudi leadership to defer payments on oil exports for the next two years to help his country avert a balance of payment crisis when he arrives in the kingdom on an official visit on Tuesday, his spokesman said.

"The president will discuss several regional and bilateral issues, including means to strengthen the bilateral relations and ways to tackle the menace of terrorism and extremism when he meets King Abdullah," spokesman Farhatullah Babar said.

Pak cricket team suffers jolt as Md Yousuf joins ICL

Lahore, Nov 4: The Pakistan cricket team suffered a jolt last evening when its star batsman Muhammad Yousuf announced that he would be joining the Indian Cricket League (ICL) promoted by a business house.

PCB Director (Cricket Operations) Zakir Khan confirmed that Yousuf had joined the ICL.

“We went to Yousuf’s residence and his wife told us that he had left for India to play in the ICL. We are waiting for facts before taking any action against him,” the Daily Times quoted Zakir as saying.

But, the ICL is yet to make an official announcement in this regard.

Earlier Yousuf was named in a squad to play three one-day matches against West Indies in Abu Dhabi this month.

Aamir Sohail likely to be appointed as Pak Chief Selector

Lahore, Nov 4: Former Pakistan cricket captain Aamir Sohail is soon likely to take over as the Chief Selector of the national cricket team, reliable PCB sources have stated.

The current selection committee, under the lead of Saleem Jafar which had the responsibility to select players of Abu Dhabi series, was temporary and would be dissolved after the series against West Indies, The News quoted the sources as saying.

Former captain Aamir Sohail is a strong frontrunner for the post, the sources said and added that he has been offered the post by PCB.

Meanwhile, if he takes up the new job, Sohail would have to bid fare well to commentary assignments.
