Pak considers opening of a visa section in Amritsar

Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza GilaniIslamabad, Nov 15 : Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Ministry of Foreign Affairs would examine a proposal by Sikh pilgrims to open a visa section at Amritsar to facilitate their future travel.

“Opening a visa section in Amritsar to facilitate Sikh yatrees’ visit to Pakistan will be examined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” he said, responding to a proposal sent to him by members of a delegation representing various Sikh organisations based in Pakistan, the US, UK, India, and Pakistan occupied Kashmir.

US drone attack kills 12 in North WaziristanPeshawar, Nov 15 : US drones have fired at least three missiles into a Pakistani tribal region, killing 12 people, including five foreigners, in an area known as a stronghold of Pakistani Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud.

The US drone struck the Auladin area of Garyum village in Pakistan’s North Waziristan Agency (NWA) early on Friday. Nine of the dead are believed to be local militants.

The missiles were fired at a house owned by a local tribesman, Amir Gul.

Japanese journalist attacked in north-western Pakistan

Pakistan FlagIslamabad - A Japanese journalist and his Afghan facilitator were wounded on Friday when their vehicle was fired upon in an apparent kidnap attempt in Pakistan's volatile north-west, police said.

Travelling in a chauffeur-driven car the two were ambushed just over a kilometre outside Peshawar city, the capital of North West Frontier Province.

The driver manoeuvred the car and drove to the closet Hayatabad police station, said Banaras Khan, a local police officer.

He identified the Japanese journalist as Motoki Yotsukura from the Asahi Shimbun newspaper and his Afghan colleague as Abdul Sami Yousafzai.

Resilient al Qaeda will continue to operate from safe haven Pakistan

Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)Washington, Nov. 14 : A resilient and determined al Qaeda will continue to pose a threat to the United States and other countries inimical to interests from its safe haven in Pakistan, the chief of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has warned.

The Washington Post quoted Michael V. Hayden as saying that al-Qaeda remains the single greatest threat to the United States.

Pakistani officials: US air raid kills 12 near Afghan border

Pakistan MapIslamabad - An airstrike by a US drone aircraft killed 12 people Friday in Pakistan's North Waziristan tribal district, a known hub of al-Qaeda and Taliban militants, Pakistani officials said.

The pre-dawn attack in north-western Pakistan targeted a militant hideout in Waladeen, a remote village some 75 kilometres west of Miranshah, the district's main town.

"The attack killed 12 people and wounded at least four others," a security official said on the condition of anonymity.
