Tata Steel to stay put in Chhattisgarh project
India's largest private sector steel-maker, Tata Steel has informed that is the company is still interested in its Chhattisgarh project and has not dropped the plan. The company has planned to invest Rs. 20,000-crore to set up a steel plant over here. It has also signed the memorandum of understanding with the State government in the year 2005.
However, this huge delay in execution has created a question mark about the project. At the same time, the state is dealing with some serious Maoist violence in the state.
Hence it has been apprehended that the company might have changed its mind to continue with the project. But Tata Steel have clarified all the issues and announced that it has no plan to stop the Chhattisgarh project now.
H. M. Nerurkar, Managing Director of Tata Steel has informed that the company is not dropping the project on account of the naxal problem; however it is worried about the safety of the employees.
The company has also revealed that it was interested to launch a social audit to find out how such industrialization will affect people.
