Tata Power Loose Big as Sensex Dips 0.5%
The Indian stock market closed down as the Bombay Stock Exchange Sensitive Index, or Sensex dropped by 0.5% or 76.82, to 17,053.69 as notified at 3:30 pm in Mumbai. The giant experienced lows and highs 12 times during the day. The S&P CNX Nifty Index also withdrew at 0.5% to 5,133.35 and its August futures closed at 5,128. The BSE 200 Index dropped by 0.5%.
The shares swung on Thursday as the market opened quite low and throughout the day lows and highs were seen and eventually closed downward. The 30-share BSE Sensex dropped by 71 points and closed at 17,059 and the 50-share NSE Nifty fell 23 points and closed at 5,138.
Tata Power Co. was one of the biggest losers and dropped by 4.6%. Banks like ICICI Bank, SBI, Axis Bank and PNB were rolling down between 1-3%. BHEL and L&T from capital goods dropped 1-1.7%. Bharti Airtel slipped 2.4% and ONGC slipped 0.7%.
Among the gainers, HDFC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Reliance Infrastructure and Reliance Capital rolled up between 2-2.6% and ITC, Hindalco, NTPC and Ambuja Cements also saw an upward trend.
In the National Stock Exchange, around 532 shares climbed and around 558 shares closed red.
