Tata Nano to hit road on March 23, Consumers to spend up to Rs 70K for booking
After a delay of more than six months, Tata Motors has finally decided to launch the much-awaited cheapest family car 'Nano' on March 23 in India.
The Rs 1-lakh car, pegged as the world's cheapest car, will be on display at the company's dealerships from the first week of April. However, bookings for the 'people's car' will begin only in the second week of April.
The car was earlier scheduled to be launched in the first week of October last year, but due to violent protest by farmers led by Trinamool Congress leader Mamta Banerjee, Tata Motors was forced to quit from the state and relocate the plant to Sanand in Gujarat.
Sources revealed that, Consumers have to spend up Rs 70,000 as booking amount, which is 55-60 per cent of the total on-road cost of the car.
The car is expected to be cost between Rs 1.3-1.4 lakh after addition of various levies and taxes.
Presently, Tata Motors is busy in making arrangements for the widest possible network to book the car, so that prospective customers can conveniently avail of booking facilities at their locations, in all major cities across India.
It may be noted that Tata Nano had grabbed international attention when it was first unveiled at the Auto Expo held at New Delhi in January 2008. The Nano is powered by rear-wheel drive, all-aluminium, two-cylinder, 623 cc, 33 PS, multi point fuel injection petrol engine.
