Tata Communications to invest Rs 2,250 crore in new productsTata Communications has said that it is planning to invest Rs 2,250 crore in projects in new product areas.

The Tata group firm is looking to make fresh investments in cloud computing, mobile broadband, video telepresence, submarine cables and data centre projects, according to Managing Director and CEO Vinod Kumar.

Tata Communications reported a consolidated loss of Rs 153.06 crore in the third quarter of the financial year compared to a net loss of Rs 181.38 crore during the same quarter of the previous year, it said in a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

The total revenues for the firm from telecommunication and other services increased 19.42 per cent at Rs 3,604.10 crore against Rs 3,018 crore in the same quarter of 2010.

"We are very pleased to report a healthy improvement in the operating performance of the business. Global voice has demonstrated continued improvement in volumes and revenues. The company's global data business is scaling up as planned," said Mr. Kumar.

The global voice services contributed accounted for 54.57 per cent to the core business revenues, while total voice minutes registered on the network were at 13.4 billion minutes.

Shares of the company closed at Rs 234.95 at BSE.
