Tablet vendors sell 0.55 million units in Apr-June quarter in IndiaTablet PC makers sold more than half a million units in India in the quarter through June this year, according to a fresh report by CyberMedia Research (CMR).

In its India Quarterly Media Tablet Market Review, CMR said that manufacturers sold 0.55 million tablets in April to June quarter of this year, as compared with 71,788 units in the corresponding period of previous year.

In the first quarter of 2012, the total sales stood at 0.34 million.

In the April to June quarter, Micromax emerged as the largest seller of tablet PCs, with 18.4 per cent share of the Indian tablet PC market. South Korean electronics giant Samsung emerged at the second position by grabbing 13.3 per cent share of the market.

Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple Inc., the world's leading tablet PC manufacturer, could occupy third position with 12.3 per cent in terms shipments during the second quarter.

Commenting on the figures, the report said, "Though the tablet PC market in India is still at a nascent stage, but at the same time, has become competitive due to entry of new vendors with entry-level offerings."

Till second quarter of 2012, nearly ninety vendors had launched their tablets PC in the Indian market, and nearly half (47.4 per cent) of tablet PC sales were from new entrants during the second quarter.
