Survey: Poles worried, critical, over economic crisis
Warsaw- A third of Poles think the world financial crisis has already hit Poland, but some 40 per cent don't think the government is doing enough to protect their bank savings, said a survey in the daily Polska on Saturday.
The conservative Law and Justice party recently called for an agreement by political parties and the government to work with the national bank, financial regulators and labour unions to ward off damage to Poland.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk's Civic Platform party called the appeal exaggerated and warned against sowing panic in financial markets.
Warsaw's main index WIG20 on Friday at one point had plunged to a low of 1,874 points, before recovering somewhat to close at just under 1,992 points. Media called the dip below 2,000 points "dramatic," and "catastrophic." (dpa)
