SpaceX shows off interior of its new Crew Dragon ship

SpaceX has released a video, showing the interior of its new Crew Dragon ship that is going to transport astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). Released on September 10, the launch video seemed to be something a luxury car manufacturer might use for showing off a new sedan.

SpaceX’s website even used a tone similar to car-company-like tone. It mentioned that Crew Dragon has been designed to be an enjoyable ride. It has four windows and passengers can get a glance of Earth, the Moon, and the wider Solar System right from their seats. The seats are made from the highest-grade carbon fiber and Alcantara cloth.

In May, SpaceX tested out the ability of Crew Dragon, keeping in mind the safety of astronauts. The company has developed the ship for NASA as part of the space agency’s Commercial Crew Program. The program is aiming to bring ‘cost-effective access’ to the ISS, and also wants to pave the way to develop ships for manned missions to Mars in the 2030s.

SpaceX mentioned that the ship will have a climate-control system, with which astronauts will be able to set the temperature in the Crew Dragon between a very comfortable 65 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The company didn’t comment on whether there will be a tape deck.

The Dragon Crew will be self-driving, unlike the Tesla Model S, but both astronauts and mission control will be able to control it if needed.
