Skype’s VoIP app for iPhone to be available for download!

SkypeCome Tuesday and the free Skype for iPhone will actually be available for download from the iTunes App Store! While it was at the CES that Skype had announced its native VoIP client for the iPhone, it will be at CTIA annual mobile showcase in Las Vegas that Skype would launch its new service on Tuesday.

Skype has been endeavoring since long to make its service available on the most popular advanced phones, thereby expending its over 400 million users who lapped up the idea of economical, and sometimes free, calls via Skype's computer application.

In fact, not just the iPhone, Skype - the Internet telephone unit of eBay Inc - also intends launching its service for the Research In Motion BlackBerry in May; obviously looking at expanding its horizon beyond the desktop computers!

Talking about navigation, Skype's VoIP app for iPhone would impress users preferring Apple's sleek interface archetype, while disappointing those who enjoy Skype's branding - the application looks quite a lot like the conventional iPhone app, rather than the Skype 4.0 for Windows.

Hoping that Skype's new application for the iPhone will be a hit with the existing as well as new customers, Skype Chief Operating Officer Scott Durchslag said: "The No. 1 request we get from customers is to make Skype available on iPhone. There's a pent-up demand!"
