The “skinheads” plot – disturbed, racist minds at work
Federal investigators have announced the arrests of the two self-described “skinheads” - Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tennessee, and Paul Schlesselman, 18, of West Helena, Arkansas - though they are skeptical the men were a threat.
The two white supremacists have been charged with plotting to behead blacks across the country, and assassinate presidential candidate Barack Obama. The two, who only knew each other for a month, drew attention to themselves driving around in a car painted with swastikas and racially motivated words - along with the numbers “88” and “14”, and possessed five stolen guns.
The plot referenced two numbers important to skinhead culture. The number 14 refers to a 14-word phrase attributed to an imprisoned white supremacist: “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children”; and number “88” refers to the eighth letter of the alphabet ‘H’ – with two H’s standing for “Heil Hitler.”
The men allegedly said they wanted to “drive their vehicle as fast as they could towards Obama shooting him from the windows”, while dressed in “all white tuxedos” and wearing “top hats.”
Though authorities found no evidence of them actually trying to carry out an assassination, but during questioning the men allegedly told investigators they were preparing to kill 88 people “targeting a predominately African-American school, going state to state while robbing individuals and continuing to kill people.”
Ratted out to authorities by a friend, the personal Internet pages and web postings of the two “skinheads” provide a disturbing glimpse into their racist minds.
