Sirius SM Radio returns to profit
Sirius XM Radio Inc. posted a profit of $41.6 million, or one cent per share for the first quarter ended on March 31, 2010 as compared to a loss of $52.6 million, or seven cents a share for the same period in the previous fiscal. Growth in the company's subscriber base and cost management helped the company post profits, the satellite-radio operator said in a statement on Tuesday.
The company's revenue jumped 13 per cent to $663.8 million on year-over-year basis. The company, which was on the brinks of bankruptcy last year, took up some tough measures of cost cutting and improved its revenue streams after it received a fresh bout of life in form of cash infusion by Liberty Media Corp.
Sirius in its statement on Tuesday expected that the company would add nearly 500,000 customers during this year. Earlier, the company had said last month that its subscriber base had grown by 171,441 new members during the quarter. Including the same the company now has nearly 18.9 million subscribers. The company had a subscriber base of 19 million members at the end of 2008.
