Silex to build Australia’s biggest solar power station near MilduraTechnology firm, Silex Systems is planning to build the largest solar power station in the country near Mildura in Victoria and is initiating discussions for financing the project.

The company estimates that the project would require an investment of between 250 million to $300 million and the company is in discussions with financers. The federal and the state government of Victoria have conditionally committed $110 million for the large solar plant. Mr. Goldsworthy, who was present at the opening of the 1.5 megawatt pilot plant at Carwarp, near Mildura, said that the remaining finances would be a mix of debt and equity.

Mr. Goldsworthy indicated that the company has discussed the project with specialist renewable funds, private equity and utilities in the country. He said that the company is required to arrange a financial package in order to access government funding for the solar plant. The planned 100MW plant will be based on Silex's patented "concentrating photo voltaic" technology.

Mr. Goldsworthy said that he is confident of getting $75m of funding promised by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency for the project even as the government focus on the sector has been shifting.
