Saudi sanctuary to support Australian camels

CamelsSaudi Arabia may provide a safe haven to a large number of camels from Australia following the reports of Australia killing 1 million unwanted animals. Camel is an integral and celebrated part of Saudi's heritage and finds respectable place in its traditions. However, it is considered as a pest and polluter in Australia.

Camel lovers, in a response to a massive internet campaign, have urged camel owners for providing safe place for a wild herd.

The animal remained a crucial part of transportation system in Australia in early 1900s when camels were imported from India. But changing times have changed the mean of transportation and they are now being felt as burden on county's resources and facing harsh steps such as slaughter.

Moreover, Australians don't like camel meat and their large size is also considered as a hindrance for export. Australia exported around 25,000 head to the Middle-East where camel is a revered animal besides traditionally in use for transport and war machine.
