Sarosh Homi Kapadia Appointed As New Chief Justice Of IndiaJustice Sarosh Homi Kapadia has been nominated as the 38th chief justice of the country.

The senior most judge of the Supreme Court was administered the oath of the office by President Pratibha Patil.

The 62-year-old Kapadia is known for his expertness in matters of tax, banking, industrial as well as labor policies.

Born Sep 29, 1947, Kapadia was recruited as an advocate in Sep 1974.

A press release from the ministry of law and justice said, "In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Justice Sarosh Homi Kapadia, judge of the Supreme Court, to be the Chief Justice of India with effect from May 12, 2010."

In another development, justice Gyan Sudha Mishra was named as the judge of the Supreme Court. She becomes the fourth woman to grace the SC bench.

According to the sources, one more female judge could be appointed to the apex court soon. (With Inputs from Agencies)
