Sarah Palin’s designer specs boosts her Jap glassmakers’ business!

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah PalinMelbourne, Sept 9: Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been in the limelight for only a few days but she’s already started an eyewear trend.

Masunaga Optical Manufacturing, the Japanese company responsible for making Alaska governor’s MP-704 glasses is pleased with the media interest in her designer specs, for they are enjoying a sudden boost in their business.

"Few politicians, especially women, go out with glasses. We're happy to see her wear the glasses,' The Australian quoted company spokeswoman, as saying.

"We have already seen a positive effect,' she added.

She said that Masunaga Optical sells 6000 to 7000 frames of the MP-704 model globally a year but refused to reveal how many orders it received since Republican White House candidate picked Palin as his running mate.

The frames, designed out of titanium by Kazuo Kawasaki, sell for 33,600 yen (310 dollars) in Japan. Lens prices vary greatly, depending on the user's needs and preferences.

"The brand's concept is 'smart and high technology,' removing any unnecessary decoration with the sides of the glasses directly jointed into the lens,' the spokeswoman said. (ANI)
