San Francisco Holds Celebrations For The 75th Anniversary of Coit Tower

San Francisco Holds Celebrations For The 75th Anniversary of Coit TowerOne of San Francisco’s most important and beautiful features, Coit Tower was built atop Telegraph Hill in 1933 at the bequest of Lillie Hitchcock Coit, who gave a large part of her fortune so that the city she loved could be made more beautiful.

Turning 75 on Saturday, San Franciscans, dignitaries and Europeans alike gathered at the foot of the tower to pay homage to the city’s most beautiful piece of art deco.  There were decorations, speeches and firefighters dressed in the same uniform as when the tower was constructed, on a gorgeous sunny day when visitors from near and far climbed Telegraph Hill, to honor the most beloved symbol of San Francisco city.

Ceremonies over and after listening to ‘I Left My Heart in San Francisco’ on the saxophone, most visitors took a trip up the tower to get a look at the best view of the city.
