Sadhvi speaks of jail food 'conspiracy'
Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, the accused in last year's Malegaon blast case, alleged on Tuesday that she was being served non-vegetarian food by jail officials, which goes against her religious beliefs.
A 'pure vegetarian' since birth, Thakur said she has been leading a pious life and attaches a lot of religious importance to the food. She claimed she was served boiled eggs with cooked cabbage last Sunday.
In an application seeking permission to receive home food, Thakur stated that the presence of worms and non-vegetarian food was causing her mental agony.
Thakur said she had developed nausea and couldn't stop vomiting for some time. She was suffering mentally on account of this incident and had "developed a fear of the food being served to her," the application added. Thakur also claimed that she periodically found worms in her food.
Thakur recounted this incident to her brother-in-law Bhagwan Jha who filed an application on her behalf. "Given her reputation as a staunch Hindu activist, some people harbouring grudge against her are adulterating her food," the application stated. A notice has also been sent to the jail superintendent of Byculla Jail where Thakur is being held.
Thakur's bike was used for planting a bomb near a Masjid in Malegaon on Sept 29 which killed six people and injured many.
