Beijing  - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will visit China from May 23-24, the Chinese foreign ministry said on Thursday.

Medvedev will meet Premier Wen Jiabao and other Chinese leaders, ministry spokesman Qin Gang said without giving details of the schedule for the visit.

Medvedev's mentor, former president Vladimir Putin, was confirmed as Russian prime minister Thursday in a near unanimous parliamentary vote that underscored his continued power, one day after passing the Kremlin to Medvedev.

Putin developed close diplomatic and economic relations with Chinese leaders during his time as president. (dpa)
