RIM moves up the order, Sony Ericsson & Motorola slip from their position
The results released by the International Data Corp. (IDC), a market intelligence firm, on the basis of quarterly statistics worldwide for the cellular market reveals, Nokia as the number one, followed by Samsung and LG. However the number four position has been acquired by RIM for the very first time.
This must have had brought glee to all the fans of RIM as it climbs the fourth position brushing aside Sony Ericsson. It has managed to sell 10.6 million BlackBerry units in the first quarter of 2010 - a figure more than the total number of cellular phones sold by Sony Ericsson and Motorola.
Strengthening its grip even tighter, RIM plans to launch BlackBerry 6 OS by the end of the year.
The revenue for the telecom industry has risen to 21.7 percent in the first quarter of 2010. With Nokia leads the trail with 107.8 million phones, Samsung finishing second 64.3 million units sold, and LG takes the third place with 27.1 million handsets shipped.
Constituting a gross sale of 294.9 million mobile phones of total units sold around the world during the first quarter of 2010 - a 21.7 percent increase compared to the first quarter of 2009.
