Reliance Jio signs cable network deal with Bharti AirtelMukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) on Tuesday hit a deal Bharti Airtel to lease the latter's i2i undersea cable networks to provide data connectivity across Asia Pacific.

Bharti Airtel's i2i cable's landing points are situated at Chennai in India and Tuas in Singapore. Therefore, Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd - the telecom division of RIL - will be able to use the network to provide connectivity from India to Singapore

RIL said the deal would allow Reliance Jio to connect directly to the world's key business hubs as well as internet service providers, and thereby would help the operator to meet increasing demand for bandwidth and data speeds.

Commenting on the deal, RIL said in a statement, "Reliance Jio will utilise a dedicated fiber pair on i2i. The high-speed link will enable Reliance Jio to extend its network and service reach to customers across Asia Pacific region."

The company added that the deal marked its continued efforts to rapidly grow and expand in the domestic as well as international market, and to create an ecosystem with numerous carriers and ISPs.

Following the announcement of the deal, stock in RIL gained 1.74 per cent to Rs 803.50 a share on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
