Reliance Communications has joined other telecom rivals in slamming the 2G spectrum pricingNow Reliance Communications has got involved in the 2G spectrum as well. It has joined other telecom rivals in slamming the 2G spectrum pricing proposals. These proposals are unsettled by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.

The company has said that the proposals will help old, private, current GSM operators like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Loop Telecom. This is because at present they will have to pay only for their balance license periods, which is below five years for many players. This was done beside the regulator's earlier recommendation of a minimum of seven years of license period.

On Friday Anil Ambani-controlled Company has said that if TRAI's recommendations are accepted, then it will create a revenue loss of almost Rs 6,500 crore to the Government. This loss would be compared with its earlier recommendations of May 2010.

Earlier TRAI has recommended a sudden increase in prices of 2G spectrum.  This hike would see companies holding above 6.2 mega hertz spectrum paying a one-time fee for that.  This would hit older operators on the GSM stage.

TRAI has valued 2G spectrum up to 6.2 MHz at 53 per cent of the 3G sale price.
