Musician banned from Jenin refugee camp after Holocaust concert Ramallah - An Arab-Israeli musician has been banned from the refugee camp in the West Bank where she taught children for taking them to Israel to perform in a concert before an audience that included Holocaust survivors.

Wafa Younis was ordered to leave the camp in Jenin and never return, the head of the camp's "popular committee," Adnan Hindi told the German Press Agency dpa on Wednesday.

Israeli soldiers kill Palestinian in West Bank Ramallah - Israeli soldiers shot and killed a Palestinian near the northern West Bank city of Jenin early Thursday, Palestinian security and medical sources said.

They said the soldiers opened fire at Ala Abu al-Rub, 21, a local leader of the Saraya al-Quds, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad movement, in the village of Qabatya, south of Jenin, and killed him instantly.

Abu al-Rub has been wanted by the Israeli army for years for his anti-occupation activities and has been in hiding. He was killed at his house when he came to see his family, the security sources said.

Ban Ki-moon arrives in West Bank, talks to Fayyad

Ramallah - United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Ramallah Friday morning for talks with Palestinian caretaker Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Talking first to Fayyad, Ban is scheduled to have lunch with Abbas before heading to Ankara in the afternoon for the next leg of his Middle East trip.

Ban, meeting with Israeli leaders in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem Thursday after talking to the Egyptians in Cairo a day earlier, said "the elements are in place" for a truce to be reached "reasonably soon."

PA asks for help against settler violence

HEBRON, West Bank, Dec. 5  -- The Palestinian National Authority says the international community should help limit settler violence in the West Bank.

Palestinian officials said violence against West Bank settlers in cities like Hebron should prompt a response from Israel and other members of the international community, The Jerusalem Post said Thursday.

Settlers from Hebron's Beit Hashalom building have been evacuated after a sudden increase of attacks on settlers in the city.

While Palestinian officials have praised the removal of the endangered settlers, they have urged Israel to remove all other Hebron settlers to avoid additional violence.
