Washington  - The United States has placed sanctions on six Iranian companies and a Chinese businessman for aiding the Islamic regime's alleged pursuit of nuclear weapons, the Treasury Department said Tuesday.

The US said Li Fangwei, commercial manager of the Chinese firm LIMMT, has been violating United Nations resolutions by selling graphite and other materials to Iran for its missile programme.

Washington, Apr 7: Latino adolescents, who reduce their sugar intake and increase fibre in their diet can cut risk factors linked with type 2 diabetes, according to a new study.

The researchers claimed that reducing sugar intake by the equivalent of one can of soda per day and increasing fibre intake by the amount equivalent to one half cup of beans per day can reduce diabetes risk factors in Latino teens.

Washington, April 7: Girls who give birth between the age group of 15 and 19 are more likely to be overweight, with more abdominal fat, regardless of their childhood weight or of other risk factors for weight gain, according to a new study.

Erica P. Gunderson, Ph. D., of Kaiser Permanente, Oakland, California, and colleagues studied 1,890 girls (983 black and 907 white) who were age 9 to 10 at the beginning of the study in 1987-1988.

Washington, April 7: A new study has suggested that brief stress management sessions prior to and immediately after surgery may have both short- and long-term benefit for men undergoing a radical prostatectomy for early-stage prostate cancer.

The study, conducted by researchers at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, is the first to examine the benefits of psychosocial intervention for prostate cancer patients prior to surgery.
