Relatives mourn death of Mumbai terrorist victims in Basti, Uttar Pradesh

Basti (Uttar Pradesh), Dec. 1 : Families of the victims killed in the Mumbai terror attack are mourning the loss of their loved ones.

About four people hailing from Basti in Uttar Pradesh were killed in the atrocious attack.

Hidayat Ullah, a 22-year-old waiter working at Mumbai’s popular Leopold Café, lost his life as a bullet struck him when he was taking orders from customers at table number four.

His dead body was brought to his village on Sunday for last rites.

"The militants started firing indiscriminately and entered the hotel (Leopold Café). One of the bullets hit him when he was taking orders. When he was taken to the hospital he was declared dead," said Quazi Hisamuddin, the village head.

The former Prime Minister passed away on Thursday afternoon after a prolonged illness.

A special aircraft flew Singh’s body here on Friday afternoon.

His eldest son Ajeya Singh will perform the last rites.

The exiles said that it was yet another peaceful effort to draw attention to the Tibetan cause.

Hundreds of Tibetans, who have been selling woolens in the city for the last 40 years said that during winters a large number of locals come to buy the woolen clothes from them and it is the best way to tell the world about their struggle for Tibet''s freedom.

Agra farmers continue to grow potato despite low prices

AgraAgra, Nov 26 : Notwithstanding last season''s bad experience due to glut in potatoes that has pushed down prices in markets, farmers of Agra region in Uttar Pradesh cultivate potatoes again saying that they have no other option due to soil conditions.

Farmers said that their options to shift to other cash crops are primarily limited by scarcity of irrigation facilities and low water table in the region. They said that potato is a less water intensive crop and they have to live with it to sustain their livelihood.

Located in Turkpatti Village, the Sun Temple is about 18 kilometres from Kushinagar. It was built by the local villagers after a huge and exquisitively carved idol of Surya
(the Sun God) made of black stone, was discovered while tilling a piece of land.

The temple has idols belonging to the 4th, 5th, 8th and 9th centuries and is visited by villagers and tourists with deep respect and revernce.
