Wachovia set to be split between Wells Fargo and Citigroup

Wachovia BankNew York - The ailing US bank Wachovia is set to be divided between banking rivals Citigroup and Wells Fargo, according to US media reports on the ongoing takeover battle over the United States' fourth-largest bank on Wednesday.

Wells Fargo would receive the bulk of Wachovia's branches and deposits, while a smaller share would go to Citigroup, which is currently looking for possible partners outside the banking sector, the Wall Street Journal reported.

With the takeover of Wachovia, both rivals hope to become top players in the US private banking business.

Two US journalists missing in Lebanon

Lebanon Beirut - Two freelance journalists from the United States are believed to have gone missing on the road between northern Lebanon and Aleppo in Syria, Lebanese media reported Wednesday.

Taylor Luck, 23, and Halli Camella Shmela, 27, who were apparently working for the Jordan Times, last contacted their families on October 1, saying they planned to take a taxi from Tripoli to Aleppo, the Lebanese daily al-Akhbar said.

According to Lebanese security sources, the two had set out from their hotel in Beirut on September 30 for an unknown destination.

Washington, October 8 : Rice University in Houston is running an advanced computer security course wherein students are taught just how easy it is to wreak havoc on the computer software used in electronic voting machines.

Associate Professor Dan Wallach, Director of Rice''s Computer Security Lab, tests his students in a unique real-life experiment as part of his advanced computer science class—instructing them to do their very best to rig a voting machine in the classroom.

In the first phase, the teams pretend to be unscrupulous programmers at a voting machine company. Their task would be to make subtle changes to the machine’s software that can alter the election’s outcome without being detected by election officials.
