Bush inks nuclear deal with India

Washington - Bush inks nuclear deal with IndiaUS President George W Bush signed legislation Wednesday allowing the United States to sell civilian nuclear technology and material to India.

The bill reverses more than 30 years of US policy banning the export of nuclear technology to India in exchange for international inspections of India's civilian nuclear energy programme.

The agreement was at the top of Bush's foreign policy agenda as he prepares to leave office in January and it has emerged as the centrepiece of increasingly strong diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.

Recap Partners to acquire Chennai-based HOV Service for Rs 950 croreNew York-based REcap Partners-LLC has agreed to acquire Chennai-based business process outsourcing (BPO) firm HOV Services along with its two units operational in Beijing and Hong Kong for total consideration of Rs 950 crore. 

In February 2007, HOV Services came in headlines when it acquired US-based Lason for $148 million. The deal was considered as the one of the biggest acquisitions in the BPO segment.

Oracle acquires Primavera Software

Oracle acquires Primavera SoftwareOracle Corporation, the world's largest enterprise software company, has agreed to acquire Primavera Software, a maker of project management software for an undisclosed amount.

Primavera's PPM software helps companies propose, prioritize and select project investments, and plan, manage and control the most complex projects and project portfolios.

Dr Reddy gets USFDA nod for Primidone Tablets

Dr Reddy gets USFDA nod for Primidone TabletsDr Reddy's Laboratories Ltd has informed that it has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to sell its anti-convulsant drug primidone tablets in the strength of 50 mg and 250mg in the market. 

Primidone, used alone or concomitantly with other anticonvulsants, is indicated in the control of grand mal, psychomotor, and focal epileptic seizures. It may control grand mal seizures refractory to other anticonvulsant therapy.

The report stated that company is allowed to sell the drug in the United States in tablet forms of 50 milligram and 250 milligram strengths.

Unregulated arms trade diverts development resources, Oxfam says New York - Many poor countries are saddled with defence debts that obstruct efforts to develop their economies and end poverty, Britain's largest aid charity Oxfam International said Wednesday.

In a report released at United Nations headquarters in New York, the group cited South Africa as a typical case, as it has to pay 530 million dollars a year until 2011 on defence expenditures related to weapon purchases.

At the same time, South Africa would need 425 million dollars a year to pay for free water for its population.

Two Guantanamo detainees transferred to other countries

Washington - The Pentagon announced Wednesday that two detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba have been transferred to other countries.

The Pentagon did not identify the detainees, but said one was sent to Sudan and the other to Algeria. The Pentagon usually transfers detainees once concluding they no longer pose a security threat or can provide useful information.

There are about 60 prisoners of the 255 at Guantanamo that have been determined to be eligible for transfer or release, but the US government has struggled to find countries willing to take them.
