Good bacteria in dairy products can help deliver oral vaccine against anthrax

Washington, February 17 : Scientists in America say that the good bacteria found in dairy products, which is associated with positive health benefits in the body, may also prove effective vehicle for an oral vaccine against anthrax.

The suggestion has come from researchers at North Carolina State University, who believe that the approach may be useful for delivering any number of specific vaccines that could block other types of viruses and pathogens.

The researchers say that the oral vaccine riding inside the good bacteria makes its way through the stomach and into the small intestine, an important immunological organ, where it easily and efficiently binds to cells that trigger an immune response.

Structure of viral coat unravelled

After three years of work, the researchers have created an image of the structure, showing five million atoms-each in precisely the right place.

The image reveals the structure of a type of protein coat shared by hundreds of known viruses containing double-stranded RNA genomes.

Muslim television channel chief charged for beheading wife

New York, Feb. 17: Muzzammil Hassan, the founder of Bridges TV, has been charged with murder in the beheading of his wife, Aasiya Hassan, in Orchard Park, New York.

Aasiya, 37, who had filed for divorce, was found dead on Thursday at the offices of Bridges TV. Muzzammil, 44, has been charged with second-degree murder.

"She was very much aware of the potential ramification her filing for divorce might have. But she wanted to proceed despite the potential for it to erupt," said attorney Elizabeth DiPirro, whose law firm, Hogan Willig, represented Aasiya.

DiPirro said the couple had "physical confrontations off and on" for their entire eight-year marriage that had recently escalated to death threats.

Washington, Feb 17 : "Doctor conservationists" say that there''s a need to save Jaguars and other big cats from hunters because these animals can protect humans from the rise of future pandemics akin to HIV and bird flu.

A new collaboration between a wildlife-protection non-profit and a teaching hospital has adopted the above message to protect jaguars, which are often labelled as "cattle killers" and are slaughtered on sight in Central and South America.

The species is also at risk of declining genetic health as its habitat contracts and populations are cut off from each other.
