Cyber crime rates soaring in the UK

London, October 30 : Britain had witnessed soaring cyber crime rates in 2007, reveals an online identity firm.

The report has shown that cyber crime in the UK rose by more than 9 percent in 2007.

According to Tom Ilube, chief executive, ‘Garlick’, majority of the crimes committed online were in relation to fraud and abusive or threatening emails leaving more than two million people prone to online harassment.

Though online financial fraud took a huge leap in 2007 with a 20 per cent rise, cases of online identity theft had gone down by 8 per cent followed by online sexual offences that fell by 2 per cent.

Nicolas Cage puts his ‘most haunted house in America’ up for sale

Nicholas CageLondon, Oct 30 : Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage has put his haunted house in New Orleans up for sale.

Cage has listed the French Quarter mansion - considered the "Most Haunted House in America" - for 2.3 million pounds, according to a posting on Realtor. com., reports The Daily Express.

The house is the third Cage has currently put up for sale - in addition to his homes in Rhode Island and Bel Air, California, priced 9.9 million pounds and 18.8 million pounds, respectively.

Recent weeks have seen an explosion of sales of devilish lingerie and sex toys, according to one online retailer.

Best-selling outfits and naughty lingerie include the Red Devil, Wicked Dark Fairy, Reversible Witch and Broomstick Babe costumes for women.

Whales sing duets to cement social bonds

London, October 30 : A team of Canadian and British researchers has found that sperm whales sing duets to cement the bonds between individuals within a social group.

Researchers from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and the University of St Andrews in the UK followed a group of nine sperm whales in the Pacific Ocean near the Galapagos Islands, and seven in the Caribbean.

The team used a series of underwater hydrophones to record the whales'' characteristic clicking sounds.

They said that on 15 of the 19 occasions, when the position of each whale could be identified, the animals were close enough to see one another, suggesting that the song was not being used to locate another whale.

Sir Michael Caine to co-present Nobel Peace Prize Concert

London, Oct 30 : English actor Sir Michael Caine has been chosen to co-present this year’s Nobel Peace Prize Concert with actress Scarlett Johansson, the organisers have revealed.

Caine, 75, had previously appeared with Johansson on screen in 2006 film The Prestige.

“Caine has appeared in over 100 films and been honoured with numerous awards,” the BBC quoted the concert''s organisers as saying in a statement.

The event, which will honour this year''s Nobel Peace Prize recipient Martti Ahtisaari, will take place in Oslo, Norway on December 11 with Diana Ross headlining it.
