Iran tests new missile

Iran, Tehran, NuclearTehran - Iran's Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) tested a new ground-to-ground missile, state news agency IRNA reported Wednesday.

IRNA quoted Defence Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najar as saying that the new generation of the Sejil-type missiles was successfully tested.

The new missile burns combined solid fuel and is supposed to be just preventive, the minister said without giving any details on time and venue of the test nor the range of the missile.

"Solana, in a letter sent to Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili on Thursday, has emphasized the six countries (the five UN veto powers and Germany) are still committed to find a diplomatic solution for the disputed issue," the report said citing a statement released by Jalili's office.

Iran parliament dismisses minister over fake degree

Iran, Tehran, NuclearTehran - The Iranian parliament on Tuesday dismissed the interior minister for presenting a false document and refusing to resign following his admission that his university certificate was a fake.

Ali Kordan had been under pressure since August, when he took office, to make the case clear but refused to resign when Oxford University in Britain denied awarding him an honorary doctorate through its representative in Tehran, as he had claimed.

Iran Foreign Minister calls for use of media to portray real image of Islam

Tehran, Nov 4 : The capacity of the mass media and information technology must be used in introducing and improving the real image of Islam worldwide, Iran Foreign Minister Hassan Qashqavi has reportedly said.

Qashqavi urged the Muslim countries to pay due attention to thwart “organized propaganda campaign” against Islam, instead of focusing on minor religious differences among various Islamic sects, reported the Daily Times.

Addressing an international conference on Islam and Media in the 21st century in Sudan, Qashqavi said that Islamic scholars should downgrade minor differences among various Islamic sects and focus on neutralising organised propaganda against Islam.

Tehran - Thousands of Iranian students chanted anti-American slogans in front of the former US embassy Monday, vowing to keep up their resistance to what they called "United States colonialism."

Young demonstrators, mainly schoolchildren, burned US flags outside the abandoned diplomatic compound in downtown Tehran, which radical students stormed November 4, 1979, taking 52 Americans hostage for 444 days.

Tehran and Washington have had no diplomatic relations since then.
