Rice arrives in Ramallah for talks with Palestinian president

Rice heading to India after passage of nuclear accord Ramallah  - US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived in Ramallah early Friday afternoon for talks with President Mahmoud Abbas, a day after the US conceded that Israel and the Palestinians will not reach a peace deal by their end of year deadline.

Rice had landed in the region Thursday ahead of a crucial briefing in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt on Sunday on the peace process.

Elderly Palestinian killed in West Bank village

Ramallah/Tel Aviv - Israeli soldiers shot dead an elderly Palestinian Wednesday morning in the village of Yamoun, near the northern West Bank city of Jenin, Voice of Palestine Radio reported.

It said the soldiers entered the village and surprised Muhammad Abahreh, who emerged from his house to check on a commotion he heard outside. According to his family, Abahreh used a torch and discovered the noise was made by the soldiers, who opened fire at him.

The radio said Abahreh, in his late 60s, was shot in the abdomen and left to bleed for two hours until the soldiers ended their patrol and allowed a Palestinian ambulance to pick him up.

Palestinian killed in village near Ramallah

Palestinian killed in village near Ramallah Ramallah - Israeli soldiers opened fire and killed a Palestinian in a village near Ramallah early Thursday, according to Voice of Palestine radio station.

The station said soldiers opened fire on Palestinians in the village of Kufr Malik, west of Ramallah, during a pre-dawn raid, killing one and injuring another.

This is the third Palestinian Israeli soldiers have killed in the Ramallah area in the last 24 hours.
