Polish, French leaders fail to set EU treaty talks

Warsaw, PolandWarsaw - Polish President Lech Kaczynski is unable to meet French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy next month for talks on unblocking the European Union's reform treaty, an aide said Thursday.

Sarkozy, whose country holds the EU's six-month until December 31, has previously said he would meet Kaczynski on December 6 to discuss the Lisbon Treaty. But the Polish president's office said he will be visiting Asia.

1918 after 123 years of partition by Austria, Germany and Russia.

The state holiday was to include church services, parades, historic re-enactments and ceremonies at monuments to General Jozef Pilsudski, who led Poland towards independence in 1918. Poland had been partitioned for 123 years by regional powers Austria, Germany and Russia.
