New Delhi - India's Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, who was convicted for involvement in the 1993 Mumbai bombings, cannot contest the upcoming elections.
The court rejected Dutt's plea to suspend his conviction and allow him to contest the general elections that begin on April 16.
"We are not inclined to suspend his conviction ... It is not a fit case to grant stay of conviction," a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan ruled.
New Delhi, Mar. 31 : The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, on Tuesday left for London to attend G-20 summit.
In his departure statement, Dr. Singh said that he is looking forward to his meetings with both US President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on the sidelines of this week's Second G-20 summit in London.
New Delhi - Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Tuesday said developing countries are affected worst by the global economic downturn and the upcoming Group of 20 (G20) meeting should address that by "coordinated and purposeful action."
"It is important and necessary for the summit to take credible decisions which will help to halt and reverse the current slowdown and to instill a sense of confidence in the global economy," Singh said in a statement before leaving for the G20 meeting in London starting Thursday.
New Delhi, Mar 31: Taking notice of a letter written by the mother of a month-old child, alleging carelessness by a doctor of All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the Delhi High Court on Tuesday said internal disputes at the hospital would not to be tolerated at the cost of those suffering.
Expressing concern over the doctors not performing their duties properly, the bench headed by Chief Justice A P Shah said, "No body should be victimised because of ego clash."
New Delhi, Mar 31: Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunas urged the government on Tuesday to strengthen the micro economic system for speeding up the growth process in rural India and take measures for the betterment of women.
Addressing a two-day conference on women of South Asia, Partners in development, Yunas, a Bangladeshi banker and economist who founded the Grameen bank, emphasised on economic concerns of women and other deprived sections of society.
