Indian ice hockey team felicitated for wining IIHF gongLeh, Apr 7 : In a rare honour, the Indian Ice Hockey team was felicitated on its return from Abu Dhabi (UAE), where it participated in the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Challenge Cup of Asia.

Ajit Kumar Sahu, Deputy Commissioner, Leh in Jammu and Kashmir did the honours.

This was the first time that the ice hockey team led by Tundup Namgyal had gone abroad to participate in an event of such a scale.

Indian Ice hockey team prepared for IIHF Challenge Cup

International Ice Hockey Federation Ladakh, Feb 15, : Indian Ice Hockey team is practising very hard in Jammu and Kashmir's Ladakh district for the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Challenge Cup which is scheduled to be play in Abu Dhabi this March.

The second Asian Ice Hockey Championship will be played in March 15-21 this year.

Twenty Ice Hockey players and five standby players, all from Ladakh were selected last week for the international event.

Spectacular festival held at Kashmir''s Spituk Buddhist Monastery

Jammu & KashmirLeh (Ladakh), Jan. 25 : The ''Spituk Gustor'', an annual two-day monastic festival, took place at the Spituk Monastery on January 18 and 19 in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir.

This festival is usually held during the 11th month of Tibetan calendar and marks the victory of virtue over evil.

A hallmark of the festival is the mask dance performed by monks who sport various masks representing the guardians, protectors and the gods and goddesses.

LadakhisLeh (Ladakh), Jan. 25 : Despite the mercury dipping in the winter months, Ladakhis have learnt to endure adversities, and choose to deem this period as a season to relax and take a break from all the toil that they undertake during the rest of the year.

Totally cut off from the rest of the world, the 434 kilometres long Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National Highway remains closed for six winter months due to heavy snowfall. The other route towards Manali in Himachal also remains closed due to snowfall.

Thus life almost comes to a halt for almost four months here as such the locals stock all the needs of daily use well in advance.
