Handloom weavers protest in Varanasi against Chinese imitations flooding Indian markets

Uttar Pradesh, LucknowVaranasi, Nov 6 :Scores of handloom weavers took to streets on Thursday in Varanasi, famous for its world renowned Banarasi sarees, against the cheap quality Chinese imitation products flooding the market.

The Banarasi saree, named after Varanasi''s old name, Banaras, is the city''s most famous export item.

The Banarasi saree that became popular during the Mughal era, is a cottage industry for millions of people around Varanasi.

England cricket team arrives in India

England cricket team arrives in IndiaMumbai, Nov 6 : England cricket team arrived in Mumbai on Thursday for the seven-match one-day series against India.

England will be playing their first one-day match in Rajkot on November 14 and is also scheduled to play two tests in Ahmedabad and Mumbai in December.

Indian selectors named a 15-man squad for the matches at Rajkot, Indore (November 17) and Kanpur (November 20) with Murali Vijay the only new face whereas ace batsman Sachin Tendulkar has been rested for the first three matches.

Jharkhand village turns barren land into lush field through cooperative farming

JharkhandGumla (Jharkhand), Nov. 6 : Farmers in Brinda village in Jharkhand’s Gumla district have converted 60 acres barren area into lush agricultural land through cooperative farming.

"Previously, we used to go out of Jharkhand to earn our daily bread. But now a lot of things have changed for us ever since we converted this barren land into a cultivable one. Now, there is no need for us to go out of our village, as we can sustain ourselves by cultivating crops here," said Indu Oeron, a farmer of the village.

The 36-year-old, left-handed batsman, Ganguly had announced at the start of the India-Australia series that it would be his last.

Arrest of Colonel an aberration on army, says Deputy Army Chief

Maharashtra-MalegaonNew Delhi, Nasik, Nov 6 : Deputy Army Chief on Thursday, termed the arrest of Lieutenant Colonel in connection with bomb blasts in two western towns as an aberration on the army.

Lieutenant-Colonel Srikant Prasad Purohit was arrested by the police on Wednesday in connection to the Malegaon blasts that killed five people and were blamed on a Hindu militant group.

Addressing the reporters in New Delhi, Lieutenant General S. P. S. Dhillon said the accused, if found guilty, will be dealt with accordingly.

Dalai Lama's envoys return to India after talks in China

Tibet China New Delhi  - Representatives of the Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama, who returned to India on Thursday after a week's visit to China, said they had presented a memorandum to the Chinese leadership on "genuine autonomy."

The main purpose of the trip was to follow up discussions held in July, Kasur Lodi Gyari, who led the delegation, said in a statement.

He said the delegation had briefed Samdhong Rimpoche, prime minister of the Tibetan government-in-exile.
